Bannockburn in Central Otago is renowned for its ability to produce small quantities of premium wines. Domain Road's Defiance Vineyard, on Felton Road, is tucked into a sheltered valley where miners once hunted for gold.
The fruit was hand harvested on 22nd & 25th March 2021 from our Defiance Vineyard on Felton Road. The fruit was whole bunch pressed before cold settling for 2 days. The resulting juice was then racked off and inoculated with selected wine yeasts to undergo fermentation in a stainless steel tank (70%) and older oak barrels (30%). The tank fermentation was stopped to retain some residual sweetness.
The colour of pale lemon straw, with clear hues in the glass our Pinot Gris has a lush texture. Aromas of nectarine, sweet peach, pear and melon with w hint of citrus blossom are detected on the nose. This is followed by a lush, full entry of ripe peach, apricot, tangelo and lemon zest. Excellent balance, with layers of complexity leading to a long apricot and citrus finish.
Enjoy with Asian cuisine, seafood, white meats or salad dishes.
" Very enticing bouquet with complexity and minerality, aromas of ripe tree fruits and mineral clay, with some spice and floral complexity. Off dry on the palate with a perfect measure of residual sweetness, balanced and contrasting acid line, a silky texture and flavours of grilled brown pear and apple, some citrus layers and fine white spice accents. Delicious, balanced, well made and ready to drink now through 2026+." Cameron Douglas
