Bannockburn in Central Otago is renowned for its ability to produce small quantities of premium wines. Domain Road's Defiance Vineyard, on Felton Road, is tucked into a sheltered valley where miners once hunted for gold.
Our Pinot Gris was whole bunch pressed. The juice is fermented in stainless tanks and two older oak barrels (these are combines after two months in the barrel) with the ferment stopped to retain some residual sugar, producing an off dry style of wine.
Aromas of fragrant ripe pear, quince and melon on the nose mingle with hints of spice and orange blossom. On the palate it provides sweet, spiced pear and quince with some pink grapefruit, melon and a touch of ginger. The wine has a creamy texture, balanced acidity and a long lingering finish.
Enjoy with Asian cuisine, seafood, white meats, salad dishes or as an aperitif.
Review, Sam Kim, Wine Orbit. 5 Stars
Beautifully expressive and fragrant, the inviting bouquet shows white nectarine, rock-melon, poached pear and floral characters. The palate delivers excellent concentration and focus, beautifully enhanced by silky texture and rounded mouthfeel. The wine is brilliantly structured by juicy acidity , making the wine immediately appealing and refreshing in the finish.
