Chardonnay 2017

Chardonnay - Click to purchase

Our Chardonnay grows in three blocks on our Defiance vineyard chosen for the quality of soils and underlying gravels.

The grapes (three clones, 809, 1066 and 548) were hand harvested on the 8th April 2017  and were whole bunch pressed to tank before being transferred to French oak barriques to undergo barrel fermentation.  Aged in the oak barriques (35% new oak) for 10 months this Chardonnay underwent malolactic fermentation and was regularly lees stirred.

Our Chardonnay is dry in style, and pale straw with clear hues in colour.  The nose has fragrant aromas of freesias, honeysuckle, melon and grapefruit with hints of ginger and smokey oak. The palate is dry with ripe peach, nectarine, apricot, pineapple, melon and a hint of citrus.  The texture is creamy and mouth filling.  A complex wine with bright acidity, nice minerality and a persistently long finish.
