Our Chardonnay vines grow in three blocks on our Defiance vineyard chosen for the quality of soils and underlying gravels. Our Chardonnay clones (809, 1066 and 548) are the three great clones used by the French Grand Crus of Corton-Charlemagne - considered to represent some of the finest white burgundies. These three clones are designed for blending, with 548 and 1066 producing full bodied wines with complex aromas, the addition of 5 - 10% of 809 provides muscat aromas and a fine well balanced structure.
The grapes were hand harvested on the 8th April 2017 and were whole bunch pressed to tank before being transferred to French oak barriques to undergo barrel fermentation. Aged in the oak barriques (35% new oak) for 10 months this Chardonnay underwent malolactic fermentation and was regularly lees stirred.
Our Chardonnay is dry in style, and pale straw with clear hues in colour. The nose has fragrant aromas of freesias, honeysuckle, melon and grapefruit with hints of ginger and smokey oak. The palate is dry with ripe peach, nectarine, apricot, pineapple, melon and a hint of citrus. The texture is creamy and mouth filling. A complex wine with bright acidity, nice minerality and a persistently long finish.
Cameron Douglas: "A delicious wine that captivates and shows off Chardonnay from the region".

WineState: " Well worth cellaring ....light lemon/green it has a fresh, citrusy, slightly smokey bouquet, showing good complexity. An elegant, youthful wine, it is tightly structured with vibrant grapefruit-like flavours, fresh acidity, savoury biscuity notes and a lengthy finish."
