Pinot Gris 2017

Bannockburn in Central Otago is renowned for its ability to produce small quantities of premium wines.  Domain Road's Defiance Vineyard, on Felton Road, is tucked into a sheltered valley where miners once hunted for gold.   

The Wine

The fruit was hand harvested and whole bunch pressed before cold settling for 2 days. The resulting juice was then racked off and inoculating with selected wine yeasts to undergo fermentation in stainless steel tank and older oak barrels (16%).  The tank fermentation was stopped to retain some residual sugar. The two portions were then combined before bottling to make a single wine. 

Our Pinot Gris has aromas of pear, peach, and toffee apples on the nose, mingled with hints of honey and elderflower.   On the palate it provides flavours of peach, apple, citrus and ginger.  The wine is has a creamy texture, it has balanced acidity with good levels of complexity and concentration followed by a long lingering finish.
