2013 Pinot Noir - Single Vineyard
Our Pinot Noir is grown on our best soils in a part of the vineyard that has not been touched by gold mining. For almost 100 years fruit was grown here, peaches pears and apples originally and then Apricots at a later stage. It has been said that if you can grow Apricots then you can also grow great Pinot Noir and this has certainly been the case at Domain Road.
The fruit was hand harvested between the 10th and 20th April 2013. After de stemming and a period of cold soak in stainless tanks, the juice was inoculated with selected wine yeasts before fermentation. The wine has been aged for approximately 9 months in French oak barriques, of which 31% were new.
Our 2013 Pinot Noir is a vibrant deep purple in colour. On the nose it displays bright red and dark fruit with dried herbs, spice, hints of vanilla and toasty oak. The palate has rich red berry fruit and black cherry with a touch of liquorice and leather. A complex wine with good concentration, fine grained silky tannins and a long lingering finish.
