The last of summer wine....the colours of Autumn look amazing in Central at the moment and for us they herald the end of the another year in the tasting room.  We close today (April 24th) and reopen on Labour Weekend at the end of October.  We have welcomed many visitors, of many nationalities, to the vineyard over the last six months (and where did that time go!) - as well as welcoming back a number of old friends. Watching the transition in the vineyard over the growing season is always amazing from bud burst in October through to harvest in April, and the source of many questions from our visitors whilst they enjoy our wines.

We look forward to seeing many of you again when the tasting room door re-opens - and in the meantime of course you can continue to enjoy our wines by ordering them on-line!

The many faces of harvest - well we finally did it - all the grapes are safely in so Fiona and her team can relax and the responsibility for the vintage passes over to Pete and his team at the winery.  Over the 14 days of harvest we picked over 80 tonnes of grapes.  A five star effort by all concerned

Not that Fiona et al will be able to relax for long - the nets have to come off and general maintenance carried out before the long haul of winter pruning begins - then before we know it we are once more into a new growing season!!

Central turned on a glorious day for the last day of harvest - crisp and clear first thing and warm by lunch time - the last of the Sauvignon Blanc came in by 11.30am and then it was time to relax over well deserved long lunch and a few wines.

The 2016 team (the only Kiwi is easy to spot!)

Putting the final touches to lunch (not just a fork lift and tractor driver but a chef as well!)

A long lunch!

Team Bretagne!

Thanks once more to Fiona for the photos:

Images of harvest as another year draws to a close - with most of Domain Road Vineyard now safely in at the winery.  The weather has been a bit fickle for us this year with some gloriously sunny days, cool starts (but no frost as yet although we have come close), more rain that we would have liked (hence the green grass) and fresh snow on the Dunstan Range this morning!!

One down and one to go - on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week Fiona and her team brought in respectively Pinot Noir for the 'Defiance Pinot Noir', the Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling thus completing the harvest on this young vineyard (it is just our second harvest from Defiance).  With time to spare on Thursday and inclement weather forecast for Friday - tractors, bins and pickers were quickly relocated to Domain Road vineyard where the week was finished off by picking the Pinot from Domain Road destined for Pinot Noir Rosé.

Our team, from Chile, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany (plus an older Kiwi!!) have worked very hard to get the fruit in from Defiance in seven days and are now having a well earned rest until we start the main harvest from Domain Road.

Photos show the Pinot Noir destined for the Defiance Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc grapes on the vine and in the bins, Riesling waiting to be picked, and our team, still smiling, after finishing another hard days work (Thanks Fiona for the photos!).
