Central Otago's Domain Road Vineyard, near Bannockburn, is sited in a sheltered valley which provides a unique micro-climate, ideal for producing premium wines.
Our Riesling vines are planted in the lower region of the vineyard where 19th century gold miners left an area of exposed mineral rich ‘pipe clay’, the remnants of a 2-million year old lake bed.
A cooler growing season over the summer, followed by a long, gradual cooling in the autumn resulted in this delightful Riesling, harvested in April 2009.
Our 2009 Riesling is an off-dry style, fermented cool in stainless steel after gentle whole bunch pressing.
The wine displays citrus fruits, orange and grapefruit on the nose and palate, with hints of crystallised ginger underpinned by mineral complexity. The ferment was stopped to retain the wine’s own natural sugar which balances beautifully with the natural acidity of this wine.
Picked as a 'top 5' Riesling in Cuisine Magazine, coming in at number three with 5 stars, this is what the judges had to say, "Ah, the things Central Otago can do with Riesling... This is lean, limey, uninhibited and big in terms of its fruit expression. Beneath the lemon curd and lime flavours lies a savoury minerality..."
In Winestate 2011, Michael Cooper describes it as, "Unfolding well, a full-bodied style with concentrated lemon/lime flavours, a gentle splash of sweetness and racy acidity. It is mouth-filling, with intense, fresh citrus fruit and slight passionfruit flavours.
Enjoy with lightly spiced dishes, seafood or as an aperitif.
