Central Otago's Domain Road Vineyard, near Bannockburn, is uniquely sited in a sheltered valley which provides a micro-climate, ideal for producing premium wines. The Pinot Noir grapes are planted on high quality loam soils which overlay schist gravels and ‘pipe clay’.

The Wine

Five different clones were hand-tended and hand-picked. After initial fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was aged for 15 months in oak, followed by a further six months in-bottle before release.

The nose displays attractive dark fruits, which continue on the palate with plums, cherries, hints of liquorice and spicy integrated oak. The tannins are fine grained and well balanced. This Pinot Noir is an elegant wine with a firm backbone of acidity.

In Winestate 2011, Michael Cooper describes the wine as, "Finely scented, sweet-fruited and supple. Hand-harvested very ripe and matured for over a year in French oak barrels, it couples substance and charm with rich cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing good, savoury complexity."

Food match: rabbit, duck, lamb.
