Christmas Greetings - 24 Dec 16

Domain Road Vineyard - Christmas Greetings -

A toast to summer - (and good wine!) especially when you are visiting Central Otago from somewhere it is winter at the moment.

"What a delightful day and experience we had with you. Thank you for your generosity and for the memories we now have." Donna Losson.

Thank you to Donna for providing this photograph taken when she and her friends were enjoying a taste of Domain Road wine at our Cellar Door a short time ago.

We have had a busy lead up to Christmas and are looking forward to a couple of restful days - then it will be full on for a while as the main holiday season gets under way. If you are visiting Central it would be lovely to see you at the Cellar Door. The roses are magnificent this year, and the vineyard is looking lovely.

We have a wide range of wines available to try - including four gold medal wining wines. Come and taste our new (and first) Chardonnay, which is getting good reviews and you will be delighted to know that (unlike last year) we still have our Gold Medal Rosé available. We will also be releasing the 2014 Duffers Creek Riesling - another medal winning wine, this time from the Canberra International Riesling Challenge.

You can be sure of a warm welcome from Lucy (and everyone else on the 'team').

In the meantime we wish you an enjoyable Christmas and a happy and healthy 2017.

Graeme, Gillian, Lucy and the team at DRV.

PS The development of our new Cellar Door on Defiance Vineyard (which is on Felton Road) is going well and we hope to be opening there not too long after the New Year - watch out for a 'blog' telling you exactly when!!

December in the vineyard - 17 Dec 16

Domain Road Vineyard - December in the vineyard -

As we count down to the Christmas break (just a short one for the vineyard team as vines don't go on holiday!!) Fiona and her team are working hard in order to keep on top of the work needed. Despite the cool and windy conditions the vines are putting on good growth and flowering is well under way. Grape flowers are very discrete and you have to look quite hard to spot them, hidden, in many cases at this stage in the growing season, in the canopy.

Our trusty red tractor is ready for action.

Trimming the Chardonnay at Defiance!

And the Chardonnay gets its first hair cut!!

A bit of weeding might be required!!

A dramatic landscape forms the backdrop to the location of our new tasting room - with landscaping on a grand scale occurring around the 'building' things are taking shape, maybe not quite as quickly as we had hoped - but (to quote a well known ad') - "good things take time".

Steady as she goes - the skill of these guys is amazing - the Domain Road team looked on (just a little anxiously) as our 'tasting room' was lifted into place at its new home on Felton Road. Brought up by road from Dunedin on the back of two huge transporters it needed the skills of a very experienced crane driver and crew to place the two containers exactly in the right position. A very exciting day for all concerned - work is now well under way with completing the outfitting of our new space, and landscaping. More news on this to come soon - so watch this space.....
