Domain Road Vineyard is situated in a small sheltered valley in the heart of the historic gold mining village of Bannockburn. The unique microclimate of the area, long known to the local population, is proving ideal for the production of premium wine grapes. Our Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted partially on the top of Templers Hill, an area left untouched by 19th century gold miners and partially on Doctors Flat where mining has exposed mineral rich clays from a 2 million year old lake bed. The vineyard is owned by the Crosbie family who have long appreciated the same hot summers that our vines enjoy.
The Wine
Our 2009 Sauvignon Blanc displays typical Sauvignon Blanc aromas of blackcurrent flower, capsicum, and cut hay with citrus undertones. The palate is soft and textural with tight acidity. Approximately 10% of our 2009 Sauvignon Blanc was fermented in old oak barriques with some lees stirring to add another layer of complexity to the wine. A hint of residual sugar balances the wine’s natural acidity.
Enjoy with seafood, white meats, salad dishes, or as an aperitif.
