All Black great and Sky Sports Rugby World Cup commentator Justin Marshall is taking time out from his busy broadcasting schedule to co-host “The Pinot Central Experience” being held in Gibbston, Central Otago on September 22.
Twenty-four Central Otago wine producers have collaborated to showcase their wines to visitors during the Rugby World Cup. Buses will leave from Queenstown and rotate guests between Coal Pit, Mount Edward and Gibbston Valley wineries throughout the day, where they will be introduced to the history, viticulture and wines of the region.
Justin Marshall, like George Gregan, Anton Oliver and many other international rugby players, all share a love of good food and wine. In addition to the showcase wine tastings and masterclasses a gourmet lunch will follow at the Gibbston Valley Winery Restaurant with Justin Marshall as guest speaker.
Over a relaxed lunch guests will be able to meet and talk to the vignerons of Central Otago, learning more about their individual stories and winemaking philosophies.
“We know many rugby supporters will take the opportunity while they are in New Zealand to experience as much as they can. With Central Otago’s world class reputation for the production of fine pinot noir this event offers a very special experience between the matches in Invercargill and Dunedin,” said Rudi Bauer, chairman, Central Otago Pinot Noir Ltd.
“No doubt some visitors will find their way to the many cellar doors, but this event provides an opportunity for wineries to show the region in a structured and focused way," he said.
