A successful Conference

More Gold.
Gillian and I attended the recent New Zealand Winegrowers Romeo Bragato Conference in Blenheim. A great place to share and gain knowledge as well as look at lots of lovely equipment I can't afford to buy. We often enter some of our wines in the Bragato Wine Awards that run concurrently with the conference and this year we entered three, our 2009 Riesling, 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, and 2009 Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir is not yet available for release but I thought I would send it anyway, and the 2010 whites, although bottled, are not ready for the world yet - fine wine takes time. The awards are to the winegrower in this competition which is unusual and removes a lot of generic brands that buy in grapes from different sources leaving generally single vineyard wines from highly dedicated growers. 56 gold medals were awarded with Domain Road gaining 2 of them (Riesling and Pinot Noir and no - you can't buy the Pinot Noir yet) plus a bronze. I am not necessarily a great fan of competitions but they do help reinforce the decision in site selection and indicate our potential. Domain Road Vineyard has much more to offer us yet. - Graeme.
