Our history

TitleDomain Road Vineyard's owners Graeme and Gillian Crosbie holidayed in Bannockburn for years, watching the growth of vineyards and enjoying the wines they produced, before deciding to try their hand at developing their own vineyard.

They bought an old apricot orchard and began transforming it into a vineyard in 2002. Each year new grapes were planted: Pinot Noir in 2003, Sauvignon Blanc in 2004 and Riesling in 2005. By 2006, the first Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir Rosé grapes were harvested, in what is now acknowledged as having been an exceptional harvest.

Domain Road Vineyard, which lies next to the popular Domain Road Camping Ground, now covers most of the small picturesque Bannockburn Valley.

The Gold Rush Days

The now tiny settlement of Bannockburn was an important and bustling town during the gold rush of the 1860s. Domain road Vineyard overlooks an historic area known as  ‘The Sluicings’ where stunning land formations remain as a legacy of the gold mining activity.

On the section of the vineyard land that was once mined for gold, the Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling grapes are thriving. The historic rammed-earth gold miner’s cottage built during the 1880s has been restored and improved in recent years.

Historic Vehicles

Vineyard owner Graeme Crosbie has a keen interest in historic vehicles and has overseen the restoration of two historic tractors that came with the property. Also working on the vineyard are two Series One Landrovers (Harry and Ron) which he has restored. And currently under restoration is a 1950 ‘O’ series Bedford truck, which will be used during harvest for transporting grapes to the winery.
